THE GATE I heard a rapping on my gate. My fear arose to investigate.
The lightning flashed,the thunder boomed. My heart felt heavy as I crossed the room.
A sudden chill ran up my spine. A second thought perhaps?....to decline. Rap...Rap...Rap...again at my gate, I trembled to think, is this my dreaded fate. Shortness of breath, and hesitant feet, Added the fear of what I might meet. The wind did howl, up in the eaves.
And now the knocking in my knees. The lightning struck the air with hate, And a scream arose out at my gate. I dashed across the swollen peat, Threw open the gate to.."Trick or Treat!" ~Freshette~
